When I first started an athletic lifestyle as a gymnast, I did not believe in supplements. I truly believed I could get everything I needed to enhance my energy, performance and health from the foods I ate.

Several years later, I did a few bodybuilding shows (with bikini, figure & bodybuilding divisions) and competed in the bikini division, which involves a contest or show for the body with the lowest body fat and most toned, athletic look. I was introduced to supplements through these bodybuilding competitions.

  • I've worked with excellent trainers before, so I know when somebody knows her stuff. Meryl had a plan from day one, and is relentless in helping me implement it. She's also a fierce advocate for me on days when I'm not feeling able to give my best. I've a long way to go before I get to the "destination", but I have no doubt about Meryl's ability to help me get there. Training sessions are fun, varied, and tough in exactly the way they should be. I've made tangible gains in two months and feel better than I have in years.

  • Working with meryl has been a joy! I am by no means an athlete or a health nut. I'd sit forever and live off donuts if i could (I probably have at times). I was waaaay off the fitness wagon when I started with meryl but she has gotten me on track! It's actually fun to work out now ( close to fun as it will ever be for a person who loves to lounge as much as I do). I'm on my second leg of training and I have had amazing results in body fat percentage reduction, weight loss and overall fitness in just 2 months. I'm now motivated to keep my fitness goals going and her training has been instrumental in getting me to this place. She's also fantastic at working with people with injuries. Highly recommended!

Here are some of my favorite supplements and what I learned about them:

Note: I am not claiming to know everything about any supplement or claiming that I am 100 percent accurate about the results of taking any of the following supplements.

L-glutamine: Supports your immune system and reduces anxiety and desire for alcohol.

L-carnitine: Helps fuel skeletal muscles and reduce muscle soreness, may reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels, increases fat metabolism (helps you drop your body fat percentage).

CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid): Helps maintain lean muscle mass and healthy body composition, supports metabolism, helps reduce body fat, helps increases muscle strength (coupled with a strength training workout of course).

Chromium Picolinate: Supports glucose utilization, decreases blood sugar swings, studies show it reduces total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol and increases HDL (good) cholesterol, helpful in treating Type 2 Diabetes by improving glucose tolerance, may increase fat loss and lean muscle.

Liquid Multivitamin: You probably don’t get all of the vitamins and nutrients you need from your current diet. A multivitamin is a good way to make sure you do. I recommend one with chromium.

Glucosamine Chondroitin: Enhances joint flexibility, increases joint cartilage synthesis and repair, increases nail growth and strength, assuages joint pain, promotes healing (manufacture molecules found in skin, tendons, ligaments, and joints).

Calcium Citrate (Especially for Women): Promotes healthy teeth and bones, reduces risk of Osteoporosis later in life, serves as an alternate source for lactose-intolerant people, reduces rick of mood swings, bloating, PMS and headaches, may reduce triglyceride levels and lower blood pressure in people with hypertension, beneficial for amenorrheic women, assuages menstrual cramps, may reduce number of MS attacks, reduces bleeding of gums and loose teeth.
