When it comes to trimming down, people usually believe there’s more work to be done in the gym, when there’s actually more work to be done at the grocery store and in the kitchen preparing food.

You can workout for weeks and not lose a pound of fat if your diet is full of foods that pack on pounds. There are 3,500 calories in one pound, so in order to lose a pound per week, you must have a deficit of 500 calories per day.

In an hour long workout, you burn approximately 600 – 700 calories, depending on how hard you work. If you workout an hour one day and then go eat 2 slices of pizza – approx. 570 calories – and continue eating that way for the week, you’ll be back at square one again, and you probably won’t notice much of a difference after working out.

But if you eat a salad with grilled chicken – approx. 350 calories – and keep eating healthy for the rest of the day and the rest of the week, you’ll most likely end up with a deficit at the end of the week.

Healthier foods are NOT more expensive than unhealthy foods. When you eat healthy, you’re being proactive by preventing sickness. Change the way you eat and you’ll save yourself from a heart attack and a big hospital bill in the future!

When you’re ready to start making changes to your diet, make sure you’ve got all of the necessary foods in stock to make it happen.

I recommend going to the grocery store and buying all of the new foods you’re going to eat before you actually begin your new eating regimen. I encourage you precook any foods that take a long time to prepare. Example: Bake or grill 5-7 chicken breasts and store them in the fridge when you decide to change the way you eat. If your food is precooked, you won’t make a fast food run because your healthy food will be waiting for you in the fridge.

This precooking routine will save you time and prevent you from eating something you’re not supposed to when major hunger strikes (because the precooked lean meat is ready to eat)!
